An overview of our filter media

General description of granular filtration

The water flows through a bed of pulverised or grainy granular material in order to remove unwanted discolouration, gases and other substances from the water. Theoretically, particles > 2 μm are considered to be suspended solids, and particles < 2 μm are considered to be dissolved matter in a solution. Synonyms for suspended solids include solids in suspension, solid particles, and sediments.

Some of the substances that are filtered out of water through filtration include: sludge, organic plant matter, iron, algae, bacteria, and many other substances that you find in groundwater and surface water.

Filtration can also be used to filter dissolved particles. First they are oxidised and then filtered.  

Other filter systems use membranes or filter candles.

Mechanical filter systems

Mechanical filter systems are used to filter deposits and turbidity.

Chemically active filter systems

When the impure medium passes through the filter, it chemically reacts with the granular filter material. In addition to turbidity and deposits, it can be used to filter various kinds of pollutants, thereby making the water even cleaner.
